.45-70 Government
Overview
The .45-70, also known as .45-70 Government or .45-70 Govt. is an extremely powerful cartridge developed in the 1870's. It is primarily used for big game hunting out of lever action rifles or big bore revolvers such as the Magnum Research BFR. Even today it still competes with newer "ultra magnum" cartridges such as .500 Smith & Wesson Magnum, this is mostly due to its large case that can accomodate extremely large and heavy projectiles along with enough powder to sling them at high velocities - this thing is a monster, anything that ends up on the wrong end of it doesn't live to tell the tale.
