Situation

On the 3rd of September a detachment of 20 American Provincial Government troops reached Washington state after a month long trek from Washington DC. The purpose of the detachment was to investigate the origins of propaganda broadcasts coming from the region and to conduct reconnaisance then report back any and all findings.

In the following days APG forces made contact with a survivor group calling themselves the New Confederacy, no hostilities took place initially. However it was reported soon after initial contact that they were being followed by NC Scouts and that their camp was being observed at night.

Around 11:00 pm on the 9th of September, the APG camp was attacked by what was initially assumed to be New Confederacy fighters however upon conclusion of the attack APG troops discovered that their attackers appeared to be decaying and had bright red glowing eyes. Reports of the attack and the details of the attack were intecepted by the Foundation and prevented from reaching APG command to prevent panick.

Despite successfully repelling the attack they sustained 11 KIA and 3 severely injured, at less than half strength and their camp compromised, the APG forces desperately sought shelter with the NC. While in the NC camp, they questioned locals about their attackers and discovered that they are well known in the area and call themselves the 'Ascended'. The New Confederacy had reportedly been engaging in conflict with the Ascended for some time now, resorting to propaganda to source new recruits from nearby areas to help in their fight to secure Washington as their own and defeat the Ascended.

Following a period of radio silence, on the 13th of September panicked messages were intercepted that spoke of a 'portal back in time' and that only the detachment leader was alive, with all other APG survivors having been killed by NC fighters. These messages were doctored and then retransmitted, allowing APG command to only be aware of the fact that APG troops had been killed by the New Confederacy and any details of anomalous activity was excluded.
